Medical Retina

MEDICAL RETINA

Under Medical Retina, we treat a large range of conditions that affect the retina (the light-sensitive film at the back of the eye). These include common conditions such as diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusions, as well as numerous other less common macular and retinal conditions including the rare inherited eye diseases.

Investigations:

1. Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) – this examines the circulation (outside/edge) of the retina

2. Fundus photography – to document retinal pathology

3. Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG) – to enhance visualization of the choroidal layer, deep to the retina

4. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) – this allows a cross-sectional image of the retina to be taken

5. B-scan ultrasonography – to measure the eye and identify abnormalities in the retina when the retina cannot be visualized

Treatment:

We offer a comprehensive range of eye treatments from eye drops and laser therapy to injections into the eye; for examples Ranibizumab (Lucentis) injections to treat age-related macular degeneration; Bevacizumab (Avastin), Triamcinolone (steroid) injection and Dexamethasone (Ozurdex) implants for other retinal diseases.
